Celebrating Ralph Brandon Gosinheimer

Hey there, Ms. Viv 'Nim Fanatics:

In today's blog, I'm taking a different approach.

The toughest thing about being a fictional author is having to retire a character, especially when there is such a close bond betwixt the two. However, it had to be done.

I regret to inform you that Ralph Brandon Gosinheimer passed away today at 12 noon EST in Atlanta, Georgia. He was 79 years old.

Ralph had a peaceful transition, as his wife Charlotte was right there by his side. They had just shared another Thanksgiving holiday with family this past weekend. Ralph said on "Turkey Day" that if he were to go to Glory, he would go a happy man. Well, this afternoon, Ralph kissed his wife and said, "I'm going home today... I'm ready." Charlotte said that she had to be by Ralph's side and hold his hand, just to make sure that he made it to Heaven safely.

"He was really ready to go," Charlotte said bittersweetly. "When he took his last breath, I squeezed his hand and kissed it, then I placed it on his heart. I'm not worried none because I'll be seeing him again when it's my turn."

Ralph and Charlotte got married in 1953 at a little church in New York City. After their two daughters graduated from college and found their respective husbands, Ralph and Charlotte moved to the simpler life in Atlanta in 1981.

Homegoing services for Ralph Brandon Gosinheimer are scheduled for Saturday, December 4, 2010. Details will be forthcoming all this week.
